Fate Grand Order: Story, Characters, Watch Order and more

Fate Grand Order Art 1

Fate Grand Order (FGO) stands as one of the most expansive entries in Type-Moon’s Fate universe, a mobile RPG blending visual novel storytelling, historical mythos, and strategic gameplay. Since its 2015 debut in Japan and subsequent 2017 English release, FGO has amassed billions in revenue and a deeply committed fanbase.

Story Overview

In Fate/Grand Order, the Chaldea Security Organization discovers mankind’s impending extinction by the end of 2016. To avert this, young Master Ritsuka Fujimaru and demi-Servant Mash Kyrielight employ mysterious “Rayshift” time-travel to journey into past Singularities, where Holy Grails have warped history. As they collect these Grails across time, from Fuyuki and Orleans to Okeanos and Babylonia, they eventually confront Goetia, the Demon God behind the annihilation scheme. In a climactic sacrifice, Romani Archaman (revealed as the real Solomon) helps Ritsuka and Mash defeat Goetia, restoring the singularities and reviving Mash. After that, the story expands through Epic of Remnant, Lostbelt, and more, deepening the narrative complexity

Main Characters

  • Ritsuka Fujimaru – The player’s avatar and last surviving Master in Chaldea.
  • Mash Kyrielight – A demi-Servant who becomes Ritsuka’s steadfast companion and shield.
  • Romani Archaman (Solomon) – Chaldea’s staffer who later reveals himself to be the true Solomon and sacrifices his existence to save humanity.
  • Servants – A rotating roster of historical, mythical, and literary figures like Gilgamesh, Merlin, Cu Chulainn, Jeanne d’Arc Alter, and others, each playing key roles across Singularities.

Watch Order Recommendations

To experience the story coherently, watching in release order is generally advised:

Release Order Watch Sequence:

  • First Order → Moonlight/Lostroom → Carnival OVA → Babylonia → Camelot films → Solomon film → Fujimaru comedy series

This allows viewers to follow the narrative progression as it was unfolded to the audience. Chronological order aligns largely with this release order, as the adaptations mirror the game’s storyline, particularly from the prologue to the final Singularity.
